Bespoke Bride - Abigail

It is always an honour to work with a bride on her wedding dress, arguably one of the most memorable outfits she will ever wear, but it’s an entirely new level of responsibility when a dear friend entrusts me with the creation of their bridal look. Abigail is as close to family as you can get, marrying Daniel who I have grown up with, our parents being the very best of friends. When she reached out to ask if I would work with her on a bespoke design for her wedding dress, I was so over the moon to be able to contribute in some way to their epic wedding day.

Abi came to me with a handful of inspiration images she had compiled and a clear idea of what she wanted to look and feel like on the day. With a confident idea of what would suit her body and what she would feel her best in, we got to work straight away on a toile to decide on the shape of her dress, choosing between a more flowing skirt with volume and a more fitted skirt style. I put together a selection of laces I thought Abi might be drawn to from the images she had sent to me and we quickly settled on the final lace for her dress, she loved the delicate floral edging and the organic botanical feel to the pattern.

Achieving the perfect fit for Abigail’s dress was my top priority, ensuring she felt amazing in it as well as supported and comfortable. I toiled the top section of her dress multiple times, tweaking and perfecting the pattern to hug her figure whilst keeping it comfortable and not too structured.

The flared sleeves Abi envisaged were such a dream to create, providing the coverage of her arms she was seeking whilst creating a beautiful retro vibe. These sleeves brought some romance, drama and lovely movement to her look on the day and paired so well with the overall styling and feel of their wedding.

Abi had attended her first handful of fittings alone as we were finalising the design and working from scratch to create her bespoke look, rather than from an existing sample. This meant she had not shared much with her friends and family until the dress was almost at completion.

When we organised her second to last fitting she brought along her family and friends to the studio for a big reveal, and their reactions were perfect. Tears from Mum, absolute approval from very stylish sisters and unanimous agreement that she was radiantly beautiful with happiness. It was then that we unveiled Abigail’s daughter, Effies, matching flower girl dress. A delicate floral lace bodice complete with capped sleeve and flowing tulle skirt. When Effie came to try on her dress she was the sweetest thing, pleased to hear she would be allowed to keep it and then politely enquiring what colour it would be (not realising it would be staying the ivory shade it was). Effie looked so beautiful on the day in her little dress.

My family and I were lucky enough to be guests at Dan an Abigail’s beautiful wedding, on a glorious August weekend. The venue was Quantock brewery in somerset where Dan is a part of the amazing team. The day was joyous and relaxed with street food vendors, ice cream van and Photo Booth to keep us all busy. The speeches brought tears to eyes, The band had everyone up dancing and there were some truly perfect memories made that day. Dan and Abigail were beaming with happiness throughout the day and it’s so obvious to anyone who bears witness to this couples love that they are just made for one another. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting me with your dress, and for letting us share in your amazing wedding day.
