Real Bride - Laura

I first met Laura and her lovely Mum…

…in a coffee shop in Taunton for an initial chat about her ideas. We had a few obstacles to overcome in the form of a three month lead time and an ever growing baby bump! Laura was utterly glowing with her pregnancy and it happened to be that I had space in my schedule early in the year to accommodate her rush order for a bespoke wedding dress. I am so glad I was able to work with Laura, we had the best time deciding on her pieces and she was so laid back and easy going considering she was unable to try many samples on due to her gorgeous bump.

Laura had great vision and a strong sense of what she did and did not like, which is music to the ears of any bespoke bridal designer, a strong sense of personal style makes the journey a smooth one. Laura had already spotted a couple of styles on my website that she was keen on, but she knew she wanted to swap some fabrics around to customise her wedding outfit. During our second appointment, Laura and I looked through a range of different fabrics as she had an idea of a type of lace she wanted to use for the top piece of her separates outfit. Once we settled on her fabrics it was time to wish her luck and plan our next appointment for after her baby had been born.

Starting Laura’s bespoke bridal dress

During this time I was able to focus on getting the top section of Lauras wedding dress made, we were waiting until after the baby had arrived to take final measurements for the bottom section of the dress. Lauras bespoke bridal top was made in a gorgeous corded and beaded lace, with a scalloped edge and subtle floral design. The lace was lightweight and had a beautiful drape to it, I added some hand sewn delicate pearl beading to the neckline to add a little bit more sparkle for her and to tie in with the pearl buttons we were using for her skirt.

Baby Rosie Arrived!

Eight weeks later and it was time to meet with Laura, her Mum, and gorgeous little bundle baby Rosie for our next appointment, I can confirm I was lucky enough to get a cuddle with the newest addition to the group. At this stage we were only around 4 weeks out from Lauras wedding and we had waited until post baby to take Laura’s measurements for her skirt and to finally decide on the silhouette she wanted, The top part of her separates was complete but it was time to finish the rest of the outfit. Laura was a dream bride and made her decisions on fabric, shape and features so decisively. I could go away with her measurements and get cracking to finish off her dress.

The finishing touches

The fabric Laura chose for her dress was a beautiful eco friendly crepe which has the best drape and handle and was lovely to work with, She had chosen to go for a fitted fishtail style with a flowing train at the back and a slit feature in the front with a central seam, The skirt also had a wide structural waist band finished with pearl button detailing to tie in with the beading on her bespoke top and the pearl hair piece for the wedding. The overall look was stunning.

These beautiful photos of Harry and Laura on their day were captured by the talented duo, Taylor-Hughes photography, who are just the most delightful humans. Their wedding day was classic and chic, a day filled with such love and joy. It was an absolute honour to work with Laura on her bespoke bridal dress and I wish the couple all the happiness in the world for their future together.
